Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoffs, Sequels and More

2025-10-27T19:09:08Z

  • Taylor Sheridan is one of Hollywood’s most prolific screenwriters.
  • The “Yellowstone” co-creator has a number of other projects in various stages of production.
  • This includes several standalone TV series and several “Yellowstone” spinoffs.

When “Yellowstone” finished its five seasons, viewers didn’t have to say goodbye — they just had to brace themselves for more.

Thanks to Hollywood’s busiest cowboy, Taylor Sheridan, there’s now a whole herd of spinoffs from Sheridan’s universe ready to rush onto your watchlist.

Since leaving acting, Sheridan, 55, has become one of Hollywood’s most prolific screenwriters. After writing features like “Sicario” and “Hell or High Water,” which earned him an Oscar nomination, and directing “Wind River,” he moved to television, where he put Paramount+ on the map not only with “Yellowstone” and its spin-offs “1883” and “1923,” but also “Tulsa King” and the hit Billy Bob Thornton “Landman”.

In October, Sheridan reportedly made a decision that shocked Hollywood. Puck revealed that Sheridan will bring his television talents to NBCUniversal after his contract with Paramount expires in 2028. (His feature film contract with Paramount ends in March, so expect Sheridan’s films to come to Universal sooner than his TV work).

Here’s what we know about all the projects he’s working on and where they stand.

CBS announced in May that Luke Grimes would reprise his role as Kayce Dutton in a “Yellowstone” spinoff called “Y: Marshals.”

According to its logline, “Y: Marshals” will see the character join an “elite unit of US Marshals, combining his cowboy and Navy SEAL skills to bring long-distance justice to Montana.”

Sheridan will produce the drama alongside Grimes.

Its release is scheduled for spring 2026.

2. “The Madison”

In announcing that “Yellowstone” would come to an end in 2023, Paramount bosses promised “expansions of this incredible world” that Sheridan had built.

In February 2024, Puck reported that Matthew McConaughey and Michelle Pfeiffer are in negotiations to lead the cast of a current sequel titled “2024.”

In August 2024, it was announced in which Pfieffer will star in and executive produce the new series, which has been retitled “The Madison.”

Sheridan will write the series, which follows a family from New York who lives in the Madison River Valley of central Montana.

According to Paramount Network, “the series is a heartfelt study in grief and human connection.”

Chris McCarthy, co-CEO of Paramount Global, said of Pfieffer’s casting: “She is the perfect anchor for the new chapter in the Yellowstone universe, ‘The Madison,’ from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan.”

As of 2025, McConaughey has not been officially cast in the series.

3. “1944”

“1944” is yet another “Yellowstone” spinoff series that has been greenlit by Paramount. It is also the one we know the least about.

It is expected that, like previous prequels “1883” and “1923”, it will take place in the titular year and focus on the difficulties faced by the Duttons during the war period.

This long-teased “Yellowstone” spinoff is expected to revolve around the story of a real Texas-based ranch that Sheridan purchased in 2022. It was first announced in early 2021 and was initially expected to debut in 2023.

However, the future of the series remains up in the air. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Sheridan explained the delays in the takeoff of “6666” (pronounced “four-six”).

“It requires, for a number of reasons, a unique level of special care, because it’s a real place with real families working here. You have to respect the lineage,” he said, adding that he told Paramount to “be patient.”

Based on the podcast “Booming city“, the series was billed as a “modern tale of seeking fortune in the world of oil rigs” in Texas, according to a synopsis from Paramount+.

Demi Moore and Billy Bob Thornton starred in the first season of the series, which debuted in 2024. A second season was announced in early 2025, with Sam Elliott – who previously appeared in “1883” – joining the cast.

A second season of the show is expected to air in 2026, according to Puck.

6. “Lawmen: Bass Reeves”

The first season of the series, of which Sheridan was an executive producer, told the story of legendary attorney Bass Reeves, one of the first black U.S. marshals west of the Mississippi River.

David Oyelowo, who starred and served as executive producer, said the series was designed to be an anthology, with each season focusing on “other lawmen in history whose stories deserve to be told.

Chad Feehan, the creator, showrunner and executive producer of the series, echoed this in an interview with Deadline shortly after the first season finished airing.

“There are several characters in the story, just like Bass, who deserve their day in the sun. As much as it pains me that this marriage is taking a break, it’s reality,” he said.

“Lawmen” was not renewed for a second season.

7. “Special Ops: Lioness”

The first season of the spy thriller, created, written and executive produced by Sheridan, premiered in summer 2023, and a second season began airing in October 2024.

The series is inspired by a real-life US military program aimed at eliminating terrorist organizations from within. The first season starred Zoe Saldaña, Laysla De Oliveira, Nicole Kidman and Morgan Freeman.

A third season is expected to air next year, according to Puck.

8. “The King of Tulsa”

“Tulsa King,” which marked Sylvester Stallone’s first starring role in a scripted television series, debuted in late 2022.

The series focuses on an aging mafia capo who is released from a 25-year prison sentence and sent to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to create a new criminal organization. Sheridan created and executive produced the series.

A second season premiered in September 2024 and a third in September 2025.

Starring Jeremy Renner, the series is set in the fictional town of Kingstown, Michigan, and follows the powerful McLusky family as they attempt to bring justice and order to a community plagued by corruption.

The fourth season of the show premiered in late October 2025.

“The Road,” launching as part of the network’s fall 2025 lineup, follows “a headlining superstar on his journey to discover the next big artist,” according to a press release.

Contestants will perform as the opening act for the headlining tour at venues across the United States and will have to convince local fans to move on to the next venue.

Sheridan and Shelton will executive produce the series with “The Voice” producer Lee Metzger and “Yellowstone” producer David Glasser.

As if all of Sheridans’ existing commitments weren’t enough, it was announced in January 2024 that he and his production company Bosque Ranch had optioned the Pulitzer Prize finalist book “Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History,” by SC Gwynne.

Sheridan will produce the project alongside Jenny Wood, Reported delay.

The book tells the story of Quanah Parker, a leader of the Comanche Indian tribe, and the tribe’s 40-year battle against white settlers for control of the American West.
